101 to being a new member at MYC

Welcome to the Minnetonka Yacht Club! Founded in 1882, don’t let our old age fool you. While you have joined one of the oldest yacht clubs in America, we are also undoubtably one of the most fun and unique yacht clubs. We use everyday to celebrate the #islandlife throughout the summer on Lake Minnetonka.

Our world class sailors include a United States Junior National Champion, an Olympic Gold Medalist, a Head Coach for the US Olympic Sailing Team and winners of countless National, North American and World Championships in a variety of sailboat classes. We are very proud of our many current distinguished sailors as well as those from decades past.

We are also home to amazing social events from awesome holiday parties made by local chefs and restaurants to weekly dinners, from BBQ and Bags competitions to Island Yoga sessions. Wine education and live music, you’ve got it! And if you just want to sit back and relax on a warm summer evening enjoying the best sunset you can find on Lake Minnetonka, there’s an Adirondack chair on Lighthouse Island with your name on it.

New Member Tips and Tricks

Pontoons: Pontoon shuttle service runs daily from 4PM - 30 minutes past sunset on weekdays and 8AM - 30 minutes past sunset on weekends. Use the radio in the orange call box to radio a pontoon driver to pick you up from our Carson’s Bay Facility or Park Ave. Landing. You can always call the main office number if you need assistance.

Parking: You can park at our Carson’s Bay Facility if you have a burgee sticker displayed on/in your car. There are limited spots and they are first come for members. The paddleball lots down the street also have free public parking as well as Deephaven City Hall. Parking along Minnetonka Blvd. and Park Ave. require a Deephaven Parking Pass that can be purchased at the Deephaven City Hall. There are several streets near Park Ave. that also have free parking, just double check for permit signs. There is ample parking as long as you don’t mind getting creative and taking a stroll :)

Socials: Introduce yourself! We have a lot of members that have been in the club for many years that love to share their passion for the place, but we also have a lot of new members that are eager and excited to meet others as well. Let Lighthouse Island be your refuge from your average hustle and bustle. Check our Facebook page for events and sign up to receive text notifications from our new Mobile Text Alert also located on our webpage.

Sailing: New to sailing or interested? See the bullet above…introduce yourself and chat with other sailors. A great opportunity to do so is at a weekly Wednesday night Sail and Social. If you know a particular fleet you’d like to connect with, reach out to the Fleet Captain (their contact info is on the same page as the Board of Directors) located in your 2021 MYC Annual Program.

Yes, the ice is free, the after hours bathroom code is in your 2021 MYC Annual Program, no you cannot use the kitchen unless you rent the island, and if you ever want to chat with someone please feel free to reach out. I’m always here for more information, to share a glass of wine, or to take a trip with you out to Lighthouse Island.
