Founded in 1882, Minnetonka Yacht Club (MYC) is one of the oldest yacht clubs in the country. Our mission is to have a diverse membership composed of sailors and social members of good character and of all ages and to promote and encourage sailing by providing our members and guests with a facility, services and social events that meet and succeed our members’ standards. Our membership is built upon strong friendships, camaraderie, and a loyalty to a long standing tradition of excellence.
MYC is not only a place for sailors, but a landing spot for many who want to enjoy a club experience and participate in socials and club events. Located on Lighthouse Island (LHI) on Lake Minnetonka, our unique location is something you can’t find anywhere else. LHI and the Carson’s Bay Facility (located on Minnetonka Boulevard in Deephaven) provide beautiful lake front views in addition to a launching facility with slips, ramps and buoys for both sailboat and motorboat storage.
Currently, the Minnetonka Yacht Club has over 850 members. Our racing fleets include A scow, E scow, C scow, MC scow, Yngling, Catamaran, Laser, X boat, Optimist, 420 and the Open Fleet.
MYC members include a United States Junior National Champion, an Olympic Gold Medalist, a Head Coach for the US Olympic Sailing Team and winners of countless National, North American and World Championships in a variety of sailboat classes. We are very proud of our many current distinguished sailors as well as those from decades past.

The Minnetonka Yacht Club is known predominantly for scow sailing although it also has robust Yngling and X boat fleets. There are four basic geographic points of interest in association with MYC - Light House Island, Carson's Bay Facility, Bug Island, and Park Avenue.
Light House Island (LHI) – Where the MYC clubhouse and Lake Minnetonka Sailing School (LMSS) are located. This is the primary location of events.
Carson's Bay Facility (CBF) (located on Minnetonka Boulevard in Deephaven) – This is our on shore facility, executive director's office and launch location. Buoys for sailboats, motor boat slips and a private parking lot for yacht club members are also available.
Bug (Tahoe) Island – “Bug” is a landing spot and slip/lift rental option for sailboats not far from LHI.
Park Avenue – Located at the bottom of Lake Avenue in Deephaven, “Park Ave” is another parking lot for members to use (City of Deephaven permit required) that overlooks LHI and Bug Island. It is also another place to park and hop on our pontoon shuttle that runs to and from Bug Island and LHI daily.
MYC taxi boats shuttle people to and from Carson Bay and Bug Island to both LHI and Bug on weekdays from 4PM - 30 minutes past sunset and all day on weekends and holidays from 8AM - 30 minutes past sunset.
The MYC sailing season runs from mid-May through mid-September. Fleets race Saturday and Sunday mornings and afternoons and Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Our Wednesday series is followed by a weekly meal on LHI, open to all members and their guests. In addition to club races, MYC hosts a number of class regattas every summer, adding to our robust sailing and social schedule.
