Happy Holidays from The Hughes family to each of you! I am sure I am not the only one that is having a hard time believing how fast 2017 has raced by. It seems like yesterday that summer was beginning and we were preparing for the A Scow Nationals at MYC. Now, the ice has settled in and we are anxiously awaiting an all clear signal to get out our ice boats and fly around the lake on blades.
I wanted to send a note to share with each of you some of the exciting things that the board is working on for 2018 and beyond. We continue to push ahead with new initiatives that will result in a better experience for our current and prospective members of the club. We have such great assets at MYC and continuing to improve them will certainly benefit everyone.
New Board Members
We have four new members on the MYC Board of Directors. Jean Olson, Pat Barrett, Tom Nicol and Kelly Brackin joined the BOD in September. Each of them brings tremendous value to our group. I thank them for agreeing to join the board! Each new member will be very helpful as we continue to raise the bar in the area of member experience.
X Boat Class Booming
In 2015 MYC had no X Boats registered for MYC racing. I will go out on a limb and predict 15 for next summer. Yeah baby! Class leadership is the secret sauce and the X group is rocking it! Contact Tim Regan to get your kids in the game! Tim Regan can be reached at 612-850-9300.
PS The X Inland will be at MYC in 2019!
Big Inland Update
Regatta Chair Kelly Brackin has been hard at work planning the big inland for next summer(aug12-19). She has done a tremendous job working with the ILYA to set the foundation that will support an awesome event. There will be tons of volunteer opportunities so watch for more communication from Kelly on how to pitch in to make this the best inland ever!
New “Executive Director” Role
The board has decided to make a significant adjustment to way the club is run day to day. We will shift from an organization driven by our volunteer Board of Directors to an organization run by an Executive Director and guided by our volunteer Board of Directors. This move will allow MYC to function cohesively between commodores and ensure a stronger future for the club. The Board of Directors has teamed up with Cincinnatus, an executive recruiting firm, to perform a professional, broad reaching search for candidates to fill this new role. Please follow the below link to view this new job description and pass it along to anyone you know that might be interested.

Sailing School Partnership
Our partnership with LMSS is on great footing. They had another fantastic year and next year looks even better. Watch for the X-boat fleet to be ripping around as part of LMSS next summer. We are so lucky to have such a strong leadership group at that organization!
In closing, the BOD will spend time over the winter working class leadership, our infrastructure and long-term strategic planning. We are very focused on membership growth for both sailors and non-sailors. We know that if we can get families out to LHI for a social event we can interest them in trying the greatest sport around!
Thanks for your continued support and Happy Holidays!
Pat Hughes, MYC Commodore
