Proposed Minnetonka Yacht Club Bylaws Rewording

Vote on Saturday, October 12 @ 4PM

Please join us at the 2019 Minnetonka Yacht Club Annual Meeting in which we discuss and review 2018 and 2019 at MYC. Additionally, Regular Members will be able to vote on the following proposed bylaw rewording. We invite any and all to attend starting at 4PM at the Shorewood Community & Event Center, 5375 Country Club Rd, Shorewood, MN 55331.

The Board of Directors of MYC requests approval of the following:

Motion: That the wording of the By-Law

CHAPTER IV., MEMBERSHIPS. SECTION 1. be changed to read:

“There shall be six classes of membership: 1 Regular, 1 Intermediate, 1 Junior, 1 Associate-Crew, 1 Associate-Social, and 1 Honorary.”

And,

CHAPTER IV., MEMBERSHIPS. SECTION 6. be changed to read:

“Associate members include Crew and Social members. Associate-Crew members may serve as regular assigned crew for registered yachts. Crew and Social members may charge on an MYC account when charging is permitted by the Club. Any Associate member shall be entitled to such privileges of the Club as the Board of Directors may determine from time to time, except the right to vote or hold office.”

---End of Motion ---

Discussion:

The Associate membership is composed of two different groups in terms of their primary interests: those who join MYC in order to sail as crew, and those who join the Club to enjoy its social activities and benefits. To ensure the health and growth of both groups, the proposed change would facilitate tracking and communication with each, and would give the Club the option of customizing offerings to each group in the future if it chose to do so. The administrative impact of the change would be minor.

The existing wording is:

CHAPTER IV., MEMBERSHIPS.

SECTION 1.

There shall be five classes of membership: 1 Regular, 1 Intermediate, 1 Junior, 1 Associate (crew/social) and 1 Honorary.

SECTION 6.

Associate members include crew and social members. Associate members may crew for registered yachts and may charge on an MYC account when charging is permitted by the Club. Associate members shall also be entitled to such privileges of the Club as the Board of Directors may determine from time to time except the right to vote or hold office.
